Why I Created a Tallow Foundation Stick

When I first started formulating tallow-based skincare, I immediately loved how it nourished my own skin. It was rich, simple, and made with ingredients I could actually recognize. But one question kept coming back to me…

Why isn’t makeup formulated this way ?

Most foundations are designed simply to cover the skin. I wanted to create one that feels like you’re applying skincare every time you use it—not just a product meant to hide what’s underneath.

So, I started experimenting.

I discovered that tallow creates a creamy, silky base that glides over the skin while helping to lock in moisture. From there, I began customizing each formula with natural clays and carefully chosen essential oils to complement different skin types.

Creating these formulas has become one of my favorite parts of what I do every day.

A different foundation for every skin type

Not all skin has the same needs.

Instead of creating a single foundation that’s supposed to work for everyone, I wanted each formula to feel like it was intentionally designed for a specific skin type.

Mature skin

For mature skin, I chose a blend of helichrysum (immortelle) essential oil, often highlighted in luxury skincare for the pampered, supported feeling it gives the skin. Paired with grass-fed beef tallow, it creates a foundation that stays creamy, comfortable, and cocooning all day long.

Oily skin

For oily skin, I incorporated French pink clay, a gentle clay known for helping to absorb excess sebum while still feeling pleasant on the skin. The result: a foundation with a smooth finish that helps balance shine without ever feeling heavy or suffocating.

Dry skin

Dry skin deserves hydration that lasts. Tallow naturally helps to soften and condition the skin, which makes it a wonderful base for anyone looking for a rich, comfortable, non-drying foundation. Carefully selected essential oils add a delicate natural scent while enhancing the overall skincare experience.

Why I love tallow so much

One of the reasons I continue to work with tallow is that its fatty acid profile is close to that of the skin’s own natural oils. That means it blends harmoniously into the skin instead of just sitting on top.

It also naturally contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, which is why it has been cherished as a skincare ingredient in traditional practices for generations.

Every ingredient has a purpose

When I formulate a product, I don’t choose ingredients just because they’re trendy.

Every clay, plant, butter, carrier oil, or essential oil is selected with intention. I love taking the time to research each ingredient and think about how it contributes to the finished product: texture, hydration, silky feel, or a delicately natural scent.

For me, creating skincare is both a science and an art.

A small amount of tallow is enough to bring comfort, softness, and a silky base for makeup.

My goal was never to create “just another foundation.”

I wanted a formula that is nourishing, simple, and made with ingredients I’d be happy to use on my own skin, day after day.
